A.J. D'Amico for HD 113

A.J. is running for the Florida House of Representatives HD 113, which includes the Brickell, the Roads, Shenandoah, Silver Bluff, Little Havana, and Edgewater neighborhoods of the City of Miami as well as the entire Village of Key Biscayne. A.J. is running because he believes that public service can be a force for good in the Miami-Dade community and in the State of Florida. As a millennial, A.J. represents a generation that is committed to making accessible and affordable healthcare the norm, overcoming the existential threat of climate change, and encouraging the success of small businesses.

Meet A.J.

Alessandro “A.J.” D’Amico was born in Miami and raised in Miami Lakes. He is the son of a Cuban exile whose family fled the deadly Communist dictatorship to seek a better life in Hialeah, Florida. A.J. grew up shuffling between his parents’ house and his grandmother’s home in east Hialeah, playing local sports, volunteering at his church and in his community, and learning what it meant to be an informed and concerned citizen. A.J.’s youth, like many in his millennial generation, was marked with great uncertainty: economic collapse, rising income inequality, and a worsening climate crisis that threatens all of our futures.

A.J. entered public service while he attended college at Florida State University. At FSU, he began his career as an intern and then legislative aide in the Florida Senate, playing a direct role in important issues facing Florida. He advocated for the expansion of Florida’s Medicaid program as well as legislation that provided greater treatment options and resources for Floridians suffering from mental illness and substance abuse. A.J.’s experience working in state government taught him how responsible, compassionate public policy can better people’s lives, especially those with the most to lose.

Searching for a professional career in which he could effect positive social change, A.J. attended law school at the University of Florida Levin College of Law on a full scholarship. At UF, A.J. served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Florida Law Review, a member of Florida Blue Key leadership honorary, and graduated with honors. A.J. began his legal career as an associate at the law firm of Holland & Knight LLP and as a judicial clerk to a federal judge. He currently practices law at the law firm of Mase Mebane Seitz in Coconut Grove.

A.J. is running for the Florida House of Representatives because he believes that public service can be a force for good in the Miami-Dade community and in the State of Florida. As a millennial, A.J. represents a generation that is committed to making accessible and affordable healthcare the norm, overcoming the existential threat of climate change, and encouraging the success of small businesses. He is running against the politics of division and fear, and hopes to serve as a voice of unity in Tallahassee while representing this vibrant and diverse district within Miami-Dade.

Este es A.J.

Alessandro “A.J.”
